Fractured Dreams Make the World Turn

Sad as it may be, the under-privileged are the back-bone of society, the world keeps spinning because of them. The choice of chasing one’s dream is for those that exist with privilege or people who are driven to forge their own path regardless of the consequences. Unfortunately, the underprivileged need to care about the consequences to survive not to talk of even thrive. Which is why I find this topic of success and hard work to be tone deaf sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that anyone from any social background can attain society’s definition of success but the question lies in the fairness of the game. What are the odds that other players would need to conquer? Life isn’t fair. Every adult knows that but it’s highly unacceptable to act like it is when people are struggling to rise about water but you sit atop your penthouse and claim that they’re not fighting hard. You sneer at them and even click your tongue when your eyes meet or they pass by you because they reek of ...

Possession

Negasi slapped the gloves harshly on this arms as he tried to move the large boulder obstructing the mouth of the cave with his wife, Marjani. Both armed with head torches, overalls, hard metal helmets and padding protecting their entire body, they set off into the cave to begin their first archaeology project together. Newly wedded couple Negasi and Marjani left their whole lives back in Ethiopia and embarked on a six month sea journey to Australia for the experience as their honeymoon. Little did they know what was in store nipping at their humanity. Myth believes that the cave lurked a deep dark evil and a jinn that possesses human souls. The locals believe the cave was blocked off by their ancestors who have long since moved into another planet. The couple had spent weeks before blowing up bits off the mountain just to unveil the cave. It wasn't an easy task but determination pulsed through their veins. Finally they had reached the eye of the storm. The Cave had finally been op...

Harridan

Alexandru and Samantha have the weirdest relationship ever known to the creatures. They met when they were both mortals in highschool and have bonded ever since after finding out about their place in the   supernatural realm. As a witch I must say, they're bonding 'spell' was a unique one, it was the first time I've ever been summoned to cast that spell, nevertheless on the predators of the night . As light is day and as dark is night, it was the toughest spell in the books.   I remember that day as if it were yesterday. I was having a well deserved week long break in Loga in the afternoon, sipping herbal tea under the warm afternoon sun with a book in my hands. "Yes, the ecstasy of the dark life" I whispered to myself as I was drifting to sleep. My pendant burnt against my chest and by the scent wafting from it ,I knew it was an urgent call and I had to get to earth quickly. What could I say, being the best witch even respected by Hades comes at price. Telepo...

Woes of Ada

Everybody dey wait Puta kene n'ogbo Ife di mma amaka Better soup na money kill am o Adanwa ngwa pekem pekem iya Ada Ada (Hei Asanwa) Ada Ada iyooo The lyrics of the song Ada Ada by Flavor blasted through the bluetooth speaker my aunt gifted me last year as I swayed my nonexistent hips to the rythm. Trying to execute the dance steps I had in my head, my wicked step sister barges into my cubicle sized room startling me. My legs wobble and I fall like a drunk panda but the evil queen doesn't seem to care. "Mama said you should wash the dishes from the village party, sweep the property and the house, scrub the kitchen tiles, fetch water from the stream, mop, cook the soup we'll eat next week..." Amaka paused to take a breath " She also said we're travelling to Lagos to visit her sister tomorrow but of course you're not going with us" She sneered like the devil she is. I leave my room quite happy that at least I have a night to myself, my ...

Blustery Illusion

All I remember from last night was that I went to sleep in the comfort of my bed and then suddenly I was startled awake in a parallel universe. I went to the minimart last night to buy some skittles. My headphones were on as I listened to music.I strolled down the street and I closed my eyes to enjoy the cool night breeze waft enchantingly over my skin as it lightly fluttered my hijab. I was unaware of my surroundings as a sleek black Mercedes pulled up beside me and four men hurried out and pointed a gun towards my head threatening to blow my head off if I did as much as utter a word. With the gun still pointed towards my head one of them carried me roughly and dumped me in the backseat of the car. The only hope I had then was in Allah as I silently recited my Ayaa Kursiy. I tried to scream out and a syringe was pulled out from a box underneath the seat and stuck into my thigh aggressively. My vision started to blur and the world started to sp...
